Sarongs and scarves are essential accessories in anyone's wardrobe, but they often lie unused at the bottom of a closet or a drawer, because it is mistakenly thought that there aren't many occasions for their use. Yet there are so many imaginative ways to wear scarves and sarongs which allow you to use these fashion accessories not only to protect your neck from the wind or to cover yourself when you go to the beach.

Tops, dresses, sweaters, skirts, even bags: there are many items of clothing that can be converted simply by folding and knotting these pieces of fabric in a novel way. All you need is a bit of imagination and a minimum of dexterity.

Making a sundress is very easy using a sarong: wrap it around your body, insert the two upper ends into a ring and pull them towards the sides, wedging them under the hem. Now you're ready for the beach, but also for a walk downtown!

With a large scarf or sarong, you can create a fantastic soft top: wrap the scarf or sarong behind your back and tie the ends behind your neck after passing it under your armpits. Tie a knot in the center of your chest, joining the two middle parts, and you're done.

Make a shawl using a sarong like this: put the sarong over your shoulders and let it drap down your back; take one end and knot it to the edge on the same side, inserting your arm through it. Repeat on the other side.

You can also transform a sarong into a dress: tie together the two ends and place the loop over your neck, letting the sarong drap in the front. Reach around your  insert an arm into the sarong, so as to leave it draped obliquely to the side. Tie the ends together in the back. Add a nice bel,t and you're ready to go.

Another way to make a dress with a sarong is as follows: pass the sarong behind your back, join the ends in front of you and secure them to your chest with an elastic band; open the ends and fasten them on the back to form soft, hanging sleeves. Ready for the evening!
