Small or large, a window is a fundamental element in any room; and even when it doesn't overlook a panorama, the fact that it lets in light is vital. There are many factors that help to make windows a focal point in a room: from the type of fixtures, to the type, size and position of any curtains. But the way you decorate the space around the window is also important.

Often, in fact, the space below a window is not fully exploited, aside from an occasional table or some pot plants. However, there are many ideas for creating more attractive under-window spots. Check out the suggestions below:

Whether they are just cushions on a large windowsill, or a custom-made sofa, the idea of relaxing in a window is very pleasant.

If the windows take up a good part of the wall, they probably overlook something nice to look at. To enjoy this, you just need to furnish the window with a low, long piece of furniture: it can be a shelf for books and/or a sofa, to enjoy the view at any time of the year.

Even small windows can become comfortable corners to curl up in!

A bookcase: this will be a more standard choice, but it can be enhanced if you choose a long piece of furniture which extends in both directions under the window. It could even stretch from one side of the room to the other!

By emulating bay windows, an intimate space can be created with built-in side shelving that will be very useful if the spot is used to relax and spend a lot of time in.

If the windowsill is deep enough, why not transform it into a type of side table? Just add some poufs to sit on.

Or, you can install a shelf - even an L-shaped one if necessary - to create a desk close to the window. It could become your dream office.

Or it could also become a dining table!

A chest to be used as a sofa under the window will be the one that will make the study even more comfortable.

And even if you only want to keep plants there, it's nicer to see them arranged on a small table that is at the right height to the windowsill (especially if this is low), so they receive even more light!

Which of these ideas would you like to make your own?
