Copper and brass utensils, kitchen accessories and furnishings were used a lot more in the past. Today, however, these items retain a great charm and are often kept at home more for decorative purposes.
Decorations or not, it is necessary to take care of these utensils if you want to preserve their splendour. Copper and brass are materials which are subject to oxidation and take on a dark green tarnish over time.
To make these utensils shine again, you can buy chemical products or use natural remedies that are equally effective. Check out the tips below:
- Salt and lemon: one natural remedy to make brass and copper shine again is the classic combination of salt and lemon - quite well known and, apparently, always very effective. To do this, combine the juice of half a lemon with two tablespoons of coarse salt. Sprinkle this mixture on the object to be treated and start rubbing vigorously with circular movements using a microfibre cloth. When you get the desired result and you see that the stains and tarnish has been removed, wipe off with the cloth. Finally, dry thoroughly using another clean cloth.
- Apple cider vinegar: this vinegar also seems to work wonders when it comes to restoring the shine to brass and copper objects. In particular, the remedy consists in putting a few drops on a damp microfiber cloth and rubbing it vigorously on the object to be polished. By leaving it on for a few minutes and then rinsing off and drying, the results will surprise you.
