All clothes wear out due to use (or some other "accident"); and the same happens with certain other items that we use at home, such as curtains, tablecloths and sheets. However, if the fabrics are still intact, it is a pity to throw these objects away. So why not try to recycle them in a useful and/or decorative way?

With old clothes and household linen we can make many different, creative items, saving money for items that we would otherwise have bought. Check out the recycling ideas below:

Jeans

Denim garments are probably the easiest to recycle, given the type of fabric, which is very resistant and versatile. And just like a denim goes with any outfit, objects made from old jeans can fit in almost anywhere.

Besides transforming one type of garment into another, there are myriads of jobs that can be used with jeans, and if only a few scraps are left, you can still make some smaller crafts, like covering a frame!

If, on the other hand, you would like to test yourself with a DIY upholstery job, you will find a thousand ideas for covering armchairs, sofas and more with jeans!

Sweaters

Among the most common and popular projects - when it comes to recycling old clothes or scraps of fabric in general - there is that of making pillowcases out of them. This is true even with old sweaters or wool dresses!

Alternatively, you could use your old sweaters to line baskets to tidy up the house.

Lace inlays or doilies

If the old clothes had lace inlays or you don't know what to do with old doilies, don't worry. Even for these there are many recycling ideas you can resort to. For example, you could starch them to make candle holders.

Sewn together, they could give windows a vintage look.

Curtains and sheets

Do you want to change the curtains in a room, or do you see that the sheets are now worn and discolored? Why not make useful items out of them, such as shopping bags? These are very simple sewing projects.

You could even dye these fabrics into drop cloths that you can use to decorate your bed with a DIY canopy!

T-shirts

In the case of T-shirts, they can be used to make cushions, or shopping bags or, if they are badly damaged, strips of fabric can be used to make wash cloths, trivets or coasters.

And a bit like with any scrap of fabric, they could become your dog's favorite toy!
