Decorating eggs for Easter is one of the most entertaining and popular festive activities. It is very often part of decorating the home for the Easter holidays and can be great fun for the kids too. Plastic or polystyrene eggs are usually used for this activity and, in most cases, tempera or acrylic paints are used.

For those unfamiliar with painting, however, the eggs could turn out to be a real mess. An alternative and simple decorating technique that can be used is découpage. This technique consists in decorating the eggs by applying paper or fabric to them using a brush and PVA glue.

Shown below, are a few ideas you can consider doing as a découpage project:

Realistic illustrations of plants and animals are usually the most popular subjects used in découpage crafts. Using these illustrations will make very elegantly-decorated eggs.

Of course, you can choose something a bit less serious and realistic, such as cartoonish bunnies - which will also be popular with the kids.

For decidely original and artistic eggs, an excellent idea could be to use sheets of newspaper and, once dry, applying other decorative items on top of the newsprint. Colorful flowers, for example, create a really nice contrast.

The same technique can be used to decorate eggs with images of Easter rabbits.

After covering the eggs with newspaper, you can add other decorative details such as string, twine, flowers, ribbons, grass or straw.
