String baskets for Easter: find out how to make these DIY decorations
At Eastertime, it is wonderful to decorate the house with delicate crafts inspired by tradition, as well as those reflecting the spring season and the awakening of nature. So, it is fun to create all sorts of floral decorations, with eggs, bunnies and more. There are truly an infinite number of techniques for creating decorations of all kinds, and the one we propose below is very easy to make.
The project involves creating a customised Easter basket. You will need string (or twine), glue, a balloon and very little else. Read on to find out more!
The basic method is very simple, and once learned, it can be adapted to many different variations on the theme, producing unique baskets in different sizes, styles and colors, and to be used in various ways.
What is needed is:
- Twine or thick woolen threads or other fairly thick yarns;
- White PVA glue;
- Water;
- A paintbrush;
- Balloons: once inflated, they will provide the dimensions of the basket (or other creation) you have in mind.
This technique works, as we said, with large or small balloons. In fact, the procedure is always pretty much the same:
Mix the glue with water, in a small bowl, so as to get a slightly viscous liquid. In fact, imagine that you are about to "bathe" the twine in it;
2. Inflate the balloon to the desired size and close it tightly;
3. Wrap the twine around the balloon, until it is completely covered (or as much as you need, depending on your project)
4. Dip the brush into the glue mixture and brush on liberally;
5. Leave to glue to dry. Check to see if the twine is stiff. If not, you can put on another coat of liquid glue;
6. Pop the balloon and remove all the rubber piece;
7. Now you have the three-dimensional shape you need and, depending on your project, you can also cut it or work it further.
For clarification:
- Regarding point 4. An alternative method, which works especially for small projects, is to dip the string itself in the liquid glue you just prepared, and let it soak before wrapping it around the balloon.
- You can also use glitter, immediately after applying the glue.
When you have completed your project, you can fill the basket with various Easter objects (like fluffy chicks, for example), and/or LED lights and hang it up.
There are so many decorations you can make: the only limit is your imagination.
Small, light, delicate eggs are very cute for centerpiece compositions, for example.
Once you have created a large egg, you can cut out various parts of it to create a basket with a handle, for example.
With small eggs, you can create original wreaths.
