Make a DIY planter from a food container
For gardening lovers, there are never enough pots for all the plants they want to cultivate. If you are looking for some original and alternative ideas for the usual earthenware or plastic pots, why don't you think about doing some creative recycling?
There are many objects that can easily be turned into plant pots or vases: jars, bottles, bowls, empty mugs, old fish tanks, etc. Even plastic food containers can easily be turned into original and beautiful planters, instead of being thrown in the trash. In this way, you will do the environment a favor and you will get some truly original and wonderful pots for your plants.
Check out the suggestions below:
Get a plastic container for food, preferably medium-large in size. Remove half of the top of the lid with a craft knife, then using a hot awl, poke holes around the edge, in the two corners near the side where the lid attaches to the container. Wrap with wire, in order to reinforce the closure of the container.
Now drill two more holes in the bottom of the opposite wall and thread twine through the holes from the inside out, gluing it to a piece of string on the outside. You will have thus created the handle that will be used to hang your planter up with once it is finished.
You can now proceed with the decoration. Start by applying masking tape to the edge of the lid that you cut with the craft knife and apply the string with hot glue, starting from the edges. Add a thinner piece of cord just below the one applied previously.
Turn the container and, using hot glue, apply the cord starting from the top and going around it up to the base.
Finally it's time to fill your new planter: start with a layer of pebbles, then add soil. The new planter is ready to welcome your plants and to be hung on the wall.
