Easter decorations: 8 original DIY projects
The arrival of spring and the approach of Easter also brings with it the desire to to decorate our surrounds to celebrate the the season. Bunnies, branches and flowery wreaths, eggs, nests and, above all, spectacular colors are the main ingredients for good decorations. And if you want to have fun and save money, you can make these decorations using DIY techniques.
Take a walk in the countryside, collect some branches and flowers and be inspired by what surrounds you. We suggest below, 8 Easter decorations that you can make yourself to celebrate the holidays.
1. Easter lantern
Using light is always one of the best ways to celebrate an event. So why not create some Easter lanterns? A nice idea is to insert a string of small, battery-operated LED lights into a lantern, along with a bunny resting on a bed of moss (or similar).
2. Easter showcase
Lanterns can also become wonderful showcases into which you can insert decorative symbols of Easter: a flowering branch, grass, eggs (perhaps in a nest), a miniature house and perhaps even a few, fluffy chicks. A wonderful three-dimensional work of art made entirely from recycled materials.
3. Basket of colored eggs
Eggs are one of the iconic symbols of Easter and even the children will have fun coloring them with you. Get some eggs and empty them out by making holes in the ends; very carefully paint and decorate them as you wish. When they are completely dry, place them in a wicker basket, along with straw or a cushion of grass and flowers. This Easter basket will be prefect for decorating your entryway or living room.
4. Fabric bunnies
Making DIY fabric bunnies is very simple: take pieces of colored fabric and cut them out in the shape of a rabbit. Sew the two pieces together and stuff them with cotton wool. Or, if you want to create scented bunnies, stuff them using lavender flowers. Decorate them as you wish with ribbons, bows and buttons.
5. Corded eggs
Another original idea for decorating your home for the Easter holidays is to make corded/string eggs. You can easily make these by wrapping cord or string around small, plastic or polystyrene eggs and decorating them with lace, beads and ribbons. Alternatively, you can use twine or jute and decorate the eggs however you want.
6. Eggshell wreath
How about this wonderful eggshell wreath instead? Next time you make an omelet, save the egg shells. After carefully washing them, secure them to a cardboard circle and decorate it with pine cones, branches, leaves, feathers, flowers and beads. It will be a treat for the eyes!
7. Easter tree with wire eggs
Instead of the usual Easter egg tree, make the eggs out of wire! And if you don't have wire, use colored thread instead: inflate some small balloons and cover them with the colored thread; then dip them in PVA glue and wait for them to dry. Once dry, pop the balloon and your threaded egg will be ready for hanging up. Don't you think these are wonderful?
8. Easter table centerpiece
Finally, to decorate the table for the holidays, an original Easter centerpiece is ideal. Customise it as you wish, using glass containers or trays as a base and adding candles, eggs, carrots, grass, flowers and bunnies. A very simple and very effective base can be made from a small wooden circle, decorated with cut flowers, eggs and a bunny curled up in the grass.
