To propagate a leafy plant from cuttings, cut the stem at the height of a node and get some bubble wrap into which you have punched some holes. Insert the cut stem into the bubble wrap and put this into a bowl of water - taking care that the leaves are on the plastic and do not get wet. Wait long enough for new roots to emerge, then repot.

If a branch of one of your plants has broken, there is no need to cut it off - you can fix it! Take a cardboard straw and cut a piece of it to the appropriate length for the broken branch. Cut the straw lengthwise and wrap it around the broken stem: the branch will stay straight and grow back into place.

You can make the ideal fertilizer for your plants easily at home by using an ingredient commonly found in our kitchens: milk. If you have expired milk in the refrigerator, don't throw it away - mix it (thoroughly) with soil. Use this milk fertilizer for your plants and you will get great results.

4. Self-watering pot

If you are planning to be away for a few days this plant-watering solution is for you. Take a plastic bottle and cut off the top. With an awl, make a hole in the center of the lid and thread a string through it. Put some gauze inside the neck and fill it with soil. Insert your plant into the soil and fill the bottom of the bottle with water. Place the upper part (inverted, of course) back into the bottle with the string reaching down into the water. The string will suck up the water and will ensure your plant gets what it needs.
