How many times have we looked for quick and ingenious solutions to solve daily problems, or to speed up repetitive chores? Some share tips and tricks they have found with others by posting them to the web, which has become an invaluable source of life hacks.
From tips on how to use chopsticks to remedies on how to quickly remove thorns from your fingers, below, you will find 12 tips that everyone should know about.
1. DIY audio speakers
If you need to amplify the sound of your smartphone or PC but you don't have proper audio speakers to plug in, there are many possible solutions. For example, you can place your smartphone inside a glass container (like a jar). Or you could cut a plastic cup in half and place it on top of your PC's speakers. The sound will naturally be amplified by the cups.
2. Clean toothbrushes
For better hygiene for your toothbrush, do not leave it exposed over the sink; store it in a cabinet or in an airtight plastic bag. Or use the plastic caps that come with new toothbrushes.
3. Stripped screws
If you need to screw in a stripped screw, there is a solution and it's very simple: cover the top with a thick rubber band then use screwdriver. You can even use the wrong size screwdrive and still get great results.
4. Removing sticky labels
To completely remove labels and sticky residue from bottles, use petroleum jelly (vaseline). If you don't have this at home, you can use any other body oil.
5. Emergency deodorant
If, after going out, you realize you have forgotten to put on your deodorant, there is a quick and easy solution: dry yourself off with a handkerchief and apply hand sanitizing gel. It will kill off the bacteria responsible causing sweaty smells.
6. In public toilets
When you go to a public toilet, only use the toilet paper inside the dispenser for greater hygiene (and not the piece hanging out of it).
7. Meal selector
If you never know what to cook at mealtime, prepare yourself a meal selector: write your favorite dishes on a piece of paper and roll a dice when it's time to cook. Fate will decide what your dinner will be!
8. Chopsticks
Do you love Chinese cuisine but don't know how to use chopsticks? Help yourself out with a rubber band and a sheet of paper: secure the chopsticks together using the rubber band and fix a rolled up piece of paper below the band. Using chopsticks to pick up food will be much easier!
9. A thorn in a finger
If you have a thorn or a splinter in your finger and you can't remove it, try this method: take a banana peel and apply to the skin where you have the splinter. Secure the peel with adhesive tape and leave it on for a few hours. When you remove the peel, the thorn/splinter will come out very easily.
10. Safety locker
If you want to prevent young children from opening a locker whose handles are within reach of their hands, there is a very simple remedy. Take a chopstick and pass it through the handles; then secure the two ends of the chopstick using a rubber band. The locker will now be child proof!
11. Unslippable glasses
To prevent your glasses from tipping over or slipping around when pouring drinks, take a balloon and cut off the top. Wrap the bottom of the glass with the piece you cut from the balloon, and you will see that your glasses will not slip around the table any more.
12. Detergent dispenser
To avoid having to wash the liquid detergent dispenser every time, add the detergent to the drum of the washing machine directly. You will save time not having to clean the dispenser.
