Organize a small kitchen using 10 ingenious space-saving tips
A small kitchen does not always mean it is difficult to work in. But whether large or small, organization is essential for every kitchen if you want to use it comfortably. In small kitchens, however, we need to be super-organized.
There are many space-saving solutions available to us if we have a small kitchen; below are 10 very useful tips to this end.
1. Dish drainer/rack
Why not use the space above the sink for a useful wall unit? For wet dishes, there are a few interesting alternative solutions, such as this rack (shown in the photo) that sits above sink, exploiting the empty space. This, in turn, will make more space for other kitchen utensils.
2. Foldable table
A cabinet with the pots and pans in it can fold out to become a table for your meals. It doesn't clutter up the floor, allowing you to move freely around your small kitchen, and it only needs to be out when you really need it.
3. Furniture sides
Even the sides kitchen units, usually left empty, can be useful: use them to mount a roll holder or a rail with hooks on for your utensils, or put up some small shelves.
4. Kitchen unit inserts
You can even make the inside of your kitchen units bigger using this tip. Insert risers or hanging baskets under the shelves, and these will allow you to make better use of the available vertical space. This technique can also be used in the pantry.
5. Vertical drawers
You know that narrow gap between a cabinet or the refrigerator and the wall? Have you ever thought about using it? You can insert a vertical drawer, which will allow you to have more space in your pantry.
6. Lid holders
And what if you used rails or rods to store your lids behind a door or inside a kitchen unit? Certainly any mess would be avoided!
7. Basket rails
Mounting rails or rods just below the wall units will allow you to increase the space for storing various objects and food. By hanging baskets from them, for example, you can use them as a fruit storage area. Or you could put hooks on them to hang up your ladles, utensils and cutting boards.
8. Equipment wall
An equipment wall is the right solution for those who have a lot of utensils and very little space to store them. If you don't like the idea of having your utensils on display permanently, you can resort to using this solution.
9. Cup and mug holder
Lovers of hot drinks will certainly have plenty of cups and mugs to store. The ideal position is on a wall, hung from hooks. Alternatively, rails with hooks can be hung under the bottoms of the kitchen units for the same purpose.
10. Pantry
Finally, to save space in the pantry, there are numerous alternatives. As already mentioned, you can use risers and baskets inside kitchen units. But you could also fit drawers or sliding shelves inside these units. And you can also take advantage of the sides of the doors to attach narrow shelves and baskets.
