Removing a broken key from a lock is a very easy task if you have the right tools at your disposal. The method described by @ferreco on his Instagram social channel is perfect for keys that broke off near the handle and which protrude slightly from the lock.

All you need is some hot glue: put glue over the key stub and wait for it to dry; then pull on the glue gently and the key will come out of the lock effortlessly. As stated, this method is only good for protruding keys: do not do this if the key is not partially protruding from the lock.

Are there other methods to extract broken keys from locks?

If the key is protruding, instead of hot glue, you can try using pliers, after having well lubricated the lock to facilitate extraction.

If, on the other hand, the key is not protruding, the procedure is a little more complicated. You can try using a paper clip or a knitting needle: insert one of these into the lock just below the key, pushing it in as far as possible and so that the tool is forced onto the teeth of the key. Then pull the tool towards you and the key should slide out (or at least partially). At this point, you can finishe the job by using the pliers, as described above.

And if none of these methods work, then you will have to call a locksmith.
