A small house, or a very crowded one, or perhaps even both: it is not easy to find room for everything we would like to when free areas are at a premium.

To find extra room and make our homes truly livable, therefore, it is worth while seeing if we can organize things a bit better. Often, the answer lies in/on the walls of the rooms and even the areas around doors: check out some of the suggestions below.

Magnetic shelves that attach to the side of the fridge: some are really robust and can bear a fair amount of weight. Perfect for spices, paper rolls and items that aren't too heavy or bulky.

Here's a coat rack with a compact design that lends itself to being used for much more than just coats, hats and scarves.

Net hammocks for fruit and vegetables are very useful in the kitchen. They can also be used, perhaps, to hold extra towels in the bathroom, or to keep children's toys near the bathtub!

Hooks placed on the underside of wall units in the kitchen - or even inside the furniture: ladles and similar are usually hung on them, but nothing prevents them from being used to hang up bags or baskets that contain something else and that are not very heavy.

A ladder: once it was a trend, now it's almost a furniture classic! A ladder can help to tidy up blankets and throws in the living room, towels in the bathroom, tea towels in the kitchen or maybe even the clothes scattered around the room.

Garbage bins: useful, but keeping a collection of bins in the home is difficult (unless you opt for the smaller containers that are periodically emptied bigger ones which are stored in the garage, for example).

Not everyone can use an entire room as a home office, with loads of furniture. Sometimes you can only use a desk set against a wall and little else. So why not equip that wall with storage supports?

Trolleys: another modern furnishing classic, to be used in all rooms of the house (and sometimes as a "mini" alternative to the standard kitchen island!).

Hooks for brooms other tools: they help to tidy up the inside of closets and wardrobes. No more items falling out every time we open the closet door.

The back of sturdier doors can be decked out with special shelves, equipped with baskets and other useful supports.

A screen that functions as a divider, but is also equipped with pockets, hooks or storage baskets. And in the same vein, even bookcases or shelves that divide one area from another in same room can be used like this: in short, each dividing element can become multifunctional.

Under-shelf shelves: in the bathroom, kitchen, laundry corner, on bookcases - there's virtually no room in the house where this won't come in handy!
