Give a new life to empty glass bottles: continue to use them in a useful and creative way
The glass bottles typically used for tomato puree, as well as other sauces, fruit juices, yoghurts and more, have an easily recognizable shape: they are quite large, with the mouth wider than most other bottles. With a wide opening, they are ideal for pouring sauces and foods that are not completely liquid into them, and this is also useful when we want to recycle them for other purposes.
With very little effort, these bottles can become very handy containers for dry foods: legumes, cereals, pasta - all these can be effectively stored in glass bottles. And bottles usually take up much less space in our pantries. Not to mention, that these bottles can be closed much efficiently than paper or plastic bags. So, how can we recycle tomato puree bottles, for example, into beautiful and useful food containers? Read on to find out more:
What you will need:
- A paper towel (or a piece of parchment paper) for each bottle
- A brush
- Acrylic paint (in the color you want to decorate the lid with)
- Hot glue
- Twine, thin rope or even lace
- Labels
How to proceed:
- Open the bottle you want to decorate and place the paper towel over the mouth;
- Close the lid, so as to "trap" the layer of paper between it and the mouth;
- Paint the lid. The paper will prevent the paint from dripping onto the glass, and you will also be able to handle the bottle more comfortably;
- Let the lid dry, and if you want give it a second coat of paint, do so;.
- Alternatively, you can decorate the cap with string or twine: in this case, just apply a drop of glue to start wrapping the string, then another drop of glue to secure the other end, and you will cut off the excess with a pair of scissors.
- Now, decorate the body of the bottle: you can use string, twine, cord or even lace;
- When the bottle is ready, all you have to do is stick on a label and fill it!
