Make mold disappear from the washing machine's door seal with a simple tip
We all know that the washing machine, like any household appliance, needs regular maintenance to prevent dirt, hair and traces of limescale from causing blockages inside it, which can damage the functioning of the appliance and even ruin the laundry.
Furthermore, since it is an appliance that constantly uses water, there is a risk of mold forming, especially in the difficult-to-reach areas - like the door's rubber seal. So, what can we do? There is an easy and effective method that is worth trying:

You probably clean your washing machine's door seal by spraying it with your favorite detergent (or DIY remedy), and scrubbing it with cloths, sponges or even old toothbrushes. These are certainly effective methods, but they require a lot of elbow grease.
If, on the other hand, you want to save time and avoid some effort, you can try using a slightly different remedy. All you need is:
- A sponge, like those for dishes; or a soft cloth or an old towel that is no longer used, from which you cut a piece (it must slip easily into the seal)
- White vinegar, or delicate bleach or hydrogen peroxide
- Sodium bicarbonate
How to proceed? It's really very simple:
- Wet the sponge (or cloth, or towel piece) with vinegar (or bleach or hydrogen peroxide);
- Without wringing it out, insert it inside the door seal, in contact with the points affected by the mold and/or dirt. If there are multiple areas, use multiple sponges;
- Leave the sponge in place for half an hour (or more). After this time, the dirt will have dissolved, and the mold will also come off;
- Remove the sponge, squeeze it out and rinse out thoroughly;
- Pour baking soda into the door seal;
- Take the sponge again and rub it lightly over the door seal to remove any residue. Remember not to use the abrasive side of the sponge;
- At this point, you can start an empty washing cycle with vinegar (or delicate bleach), which will also serve to clean the rest of the washing machine.
The time you spend cleaning the machine will be greatly reduced, and while the sponge does its job, you will be able to dedicate yourself to doing something else!
