Limescale on the faucets: a plastic bag is basically all you need to clean them

Limescale is, together with dust, the biggest irritation when cleaning our homes. Limescale can form on faucets, shower heads, bathroom fixtures and sinks, leaving unsightly white incrustations and sometimes even damaging the pipes and other fittings. And, of course, built-up limescale can cause blockages.

Regular cleaning using the right products can certainly help prevent the formation of limescale. But what can we do when limescale has already built up on the faucets or on the shower head? There is a very simple and very effective method to deal with this, explained below:

A simple plastic bag is basically all you need to solve the problem of limescale on faucets and shower heads. You will need a few other things, however:

  • a plastic bag (preferably very robust one)
  • white alcohol vinegar or citric acid
  • baking soda
  • a rubber band or duct tape

Take the bag, pour 400 ml of white vinegar and 100 g of baking soda into it. As soon as the effervescence reaction starts, place the bag over the faucets or the shower head and secure it with an elastic band or duct tape. Leave to act for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, then remove the bag. Your faucet will be completely clean and the water will flow again without impediment!

You can replace vinegar with citric acid: in this case, prepare a mixture with 2 tablespoons of citric acid in 400 ml of water and leave it to act overnight. When you remove the bag, you can throw the liquid into the toilet and leave it to act for a few hours, thereby also cleaning your toilet bowl. In fact, citric acid has a high bleaching power and is great for cleaning bathroom porcelain.

Did you already know about this method to remove limescale? Try it: you won't regret it!
