It frequently happens - especially when entering a house that has been uninhabited for some time - that you find unsightly dirt and rust stains on the sanitary ware in the bathroom, especially on metal parts. This happens due to various factors, such as the quality of the materials with which the sanitary fixtures are made, the hardness of the water, the humidity of the air, the ventilation conditions of the premises, etc. The presence of rust can make even a perfectly clean and sanitized bathroom look dirty, which is why it is very important to remove it and prevent it from forming again.

There are numerous natural remedies that allow us to prevent and treat the appearance of rust on bathroom fixtures, without forgetting about also respecting the environment.

Many of the most popular natural home cleaning remedies also prove effective in removing and preventing rust on bathroom fixtures:

  • The remedy of choice, also widespread for cleaning the entire house, is sodium bicarbonate: just put a little powder on a soft sponge and rub it on all the bathroom fixtures so that they are perfectly cleaned and sanitized. Rust will also be easily removed using this method.
  • The second remedy is more unusual: mix the juice of a lime and salt in a bowl until you get a homogeneous paste, which you will rub directly on the areas affected by the rust. They'll be cleaned in no time.
  • Vinegar is also an excellent ally against rust, as well as being a very effective descaler and stain remover against limescale: just moisten a microfibre cloth and rub the rusted part with the vinegar.
  • Finally, citric acid is another very effective limescale and rust remover: dilute 150 g in a liter of water and pour the mixture directly onto the stain.

There are also two alternative methods which are also very effective:

  • rub a potato on the rust stains: the oxalic acid it contains will dissolve the stain, making it very easy to remove.
  • an onion also helps to effectively remove rust: dip half an onion in sugar and use it like a sponge to rub on the affected areas. The results will be amazing.
