Creative winter craft projects using plastic cups: polar bears
The winter cold often forces us to face long and boring afternoons indoors and sometimes it is really difficult to find a way to entertain our children. So why not dedicate some time to winter-themed creative projects? Not only is this a moment of leisure, but is also an opportunity to learn something more about the world around us - including the North Pole.
Below we show you some ideas for making cute polar bears using plastic cups and plates.
1. Polar bears with fish
To make these cute polar bears holding fish in their paws you will need:
- plastic cups
- white and blue card
- black pom poms
- googly eyes
- a black marker
- white wool thread
Start by securing the wool thread inside the cup with tape and wrapping it around the sides. At the end, secure with adhesive tape. Make the head by cutting out a large circle and two smaller ones from white cardboard; then do the same for the paws, drawing on the detail and gluing the pom pom for the nose and eyes to the head. Finally, cut out the fish from blue card. At this point, glue all the elements to the cup: first the head and the fish, then the legs. Your polar bears are now ready!
2. Simple polar bear
This ploar bear is also suitable for the kids to make as it is very simple. You need very little:
- paper or plastic cups
- black and white card
- a black marker
- cotton wool
To make this simple polar bear, just glue the cotton wool to the outside of the cup, then cut out two small circles for the ears and a larger one for the face and two more for the paws from the white cardboard. Then cut out the nose from the black cardboard, decorate the face with eyes, a nose and a mouth and glue everything to the cup. Easy, right?
3. Bear's face
Another very easy project to make is a bear's face. You will need:
- a plastic or paper plate
- black and white card
- a yougurt pot
- paper towels
Make this bear by cutting out two circles for the ears from the white card, two circles for the eyes and the shape of the nose from the black card. Shred the paper towels and carefully clean out the yogurt pot; when you have prepared all these material, glue them to the plate and you will have a very nice bear's face.
These are just 3 examples, but with these materials there are many projects that you can do. For example, you could add scarves or hats with fabric or create other polar animals and characters such as penguins or seals or snowmen. Let your kids have fun experimenting!
