Bedrooms and living room
In the bedroom and in the living room, it is likely that there are fabrics and surfaces that trap not only dust, but also bad smells. In particular:
- Curtains: Hung up for months, curtains need to be cleaned and refreshed from time to time. Depending on the type, these curtains can be machine or hand-washed.To dry them afterwards, they can be spread out flat, or immediately hung back up (especially if it's warm outside and you can keep the windows open). A vertical steam iron can help in this task tremendously. And you can also make a simple DIY deodorant to spray on fabrics to neutralize bad smells.
- Rugs and carpets: As with curtains, vacuuming rugs and carpets regularly is the most important line of defense against dirt and bad smells developing. This includes those used at the entrance to the house and in the bathroom, in the kitchen and those under the bed. In short, just don't forget to clean them for too long and this habit will help a lot!Depending on the size and the materials they are made of, you can occasionally proceed wash them thoroughly.
In the bathroom
- Drains: All sanitary fixtures must have clear, clean drains. But even when there are no visible blockages, there will still be debris and dirt in the drain outlet. Cleaning the drain will help a lot to eliminate bad smells from emanating.
- Damp towels and fabrics: after having taken a shower or a bath, it is always necessary to ventilate the room to get rid of the humidity. Failing to do so will allow the humidity to penetrate the fabrics (towels, bathrobes, curtains) and mold can form - creating the ideal conditions for unpleasant odors to develop.
- Beware of water leaks, like constantly dripping taps. In addition to causing limescale to form and increased water consumption, leaky taps raise the humidity levels with the consequences described above.
Kitchen
In addition to the drains, there are also the various appliances that you should keep clean: the extractor hood above the hob is one of these.
This might seem like an overwhelming number of chores to do, but in reality, periodic maintenance will help you deal with this important housekeeping mission.
