Shipping container houses: 11 amazing structures made from cargo transporters
Shipping containers are, as the name suggests, are modular cargo holders that have been used in sea transport for many decades all over the world. We see them arranged at ports, and there are different sizes - but all more or less with the same basic shape: large metal, rectangular boxes.
However, containers are also used in the world of architecture, where they have inspired some truly amazing constructions. From ultra-modern and modular projects, to adorable micro-houses. Check out some photos below:
It's incredible to see how two overlapping containers, cut and shaped properly, can give life to a home with a modern and attractive appearance.
Containers have a very simple shape, and when part of the metal walls are replaced with windows and glass doors, they also become fantastic additions for the garden (almost becoming small cottages).
Two small, identical housing units, made from containers: they could be extra guest rooms for those with a large garden, or a private studio or even bungalows at a camp site.
Some choose containers to create their own tiny homes, perhaps equipped with porches and canopies to be more comfortable.
Sometimes they become truly luxurious solutions, and to think that they were originally just a big, metal box.
A combination of wood, lights, black paint: some of these small houses fit perfectly into the surrounding environment.
Two shipping containers can become one big house if they are joined by a single roof - even one made from glass!
Often they are placed on raised wooden platforms, and the more that are used, the more articulated and comfortable the house will be.
They also look beautiful in desert settings.
And with a a bit of skill, the containers can be placed one on top of the other, creating raised structures reminiscent of some ultra-modern houses.
Then there are those who use them to create highly unique swimming pools - pools that seem to be suspended in space!
