IKEA hacks: A super-easy way to create an awesome wall mirror

Buying a large mirror - the kind that covers an entire wall - is expensive, and finding the right one is not always easy. Mirrors are a formidable piece of furnishing from many points of view: in addition to being useful and beautiful - especially if placed in the bedroom, near the wardrobe or the entrance to the house - they also have the ability to make rooms seem larger and brighter - especially when they reflect the light that enters from a nearby window.

If you don't want to spend a fortune, you can build a large wall mirror - with customizable dimensions - by using simple, square mirrors that can be purchased at any IKEA store.

This project is illustrated in a short video from the account of @stacey.b90 on TikTok. You will need:

  • Black paint, with a brush or roller
  • Masking tape
  • Saure IKEA mirrors (BLODLÖNN is the most popular model used)
  • A ruler and a T-square
  • (optional) a wooden finishing item, such as a piece of beading or a narrow shelf.

How to proceed:

  • Identify the area of the wall that you want to cover with mirrors, and mark out this rectangular area using the masking tape. Us the ruler and T-square to make sure that everything is aligned and straight, and take into account the dimensions of the mirrors plus how much of the black border you want to be visible.
  • Paint the rectangle with the black paint, starting from the edges and then moving to the interior.
  • Let the paint dry thoroughly
  • Mount the mirrors: take care to keep them straight and aligned and equidistant from the edges and between each mirror.
  • If you want, you can add a wooden shelf at the bottom (as is done in the video tutorial).

Obviously, depending on the colors of the room, a different color could be used as a "background" for the mirrors - perhaps a very dark blue, brown or green, for example. And you could also decide to arrange the mirrors horizontally, or to form a square instead of a rectangle. In short, this is a highly customizable project!
