Fluffy towels without using a dryer: tips for flawless laundry

Doing the laundry at home always takes a lot of time, especially when it comes to washing towels. So, when your wash doesn't come out like you expected, it can feel like a massive waste of time and effort.
In fact, when towels come out of the wash but are still hard and scratchy, this can be a big disappointment. That said, this is a fairly common and frequent occurrence. So how can we avoid this? Here are some tips to get fluffy, soft towels even if you don't have a clothes dryer.

- Next time you wash your towels, halve the amount of detergent and fabric softener used. Chances are you're using too much with each wash, which will cause a buildup of detergent between the fibers that leads to towels feeling hard and scratchy.
- Use white vinegar instead of fabric softener: pour 100 ml of white vinegar (apple vinegar will work) into the fabric softener compartment - or even directly into the drum - and do not add fabric softener to the wash. The vinegar smell will go away with the final rinse and the acidity of the vinegar will dissolve any detergents that have built up in the fibers of the towels.
- Rotation of towels: even being careful when washing, the more towels are used, the more worn they will become. Therefore, it is best to use a certain number of different towels for each week of the month, so as to have different groups in rotation. The towels will all last a little longer and will remain in better condition over time.
- Wash towels together by themselves: if you don't mix towels with other fabrics, they won't become a repository for lint and fibers that detach from the other garments, and this will help them remain soft.
Instead of vinegar, you can also use citric acid dissolved in water (generally the dosage is around 150 grams per litre).
