The foolproof method plumbers use to eliminate the smell of sewage emanating from a shower drain
Taking a shower is always pleasant and it helps to wake us up or rejuvenate us. What's better than taking a shower after a long, stressful day at work? All you need is your favorite shower gel and the right music to restore your spirits. However, this moment of relaxation can be ruined by an unwelcome "guest": the smell of sewage.
There are many reasons why this unpleasant smell reaches our homes: if the cause is external, it could be due to a storm causing the sewage system getting backed up and back-flushing. Often, however, the cause could be our internally-located drains which have become blocked. Where this is the case, we can easily solve this problem using methods plumbers endorse. Let's find out how to do this together:
Creativo
To effectively eliminate bad smells from your shower's drain, it will be necessary to use two simple, natural ingredients that we normally have at home: sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) and citric acid. Dissolve 150 g of citric acid in a liter of warm water; now pour 250 g of powdered sodium bicarbonate into the shower drain, followed by the citric acid water mix. Let this act for a few hours before running the water again and you will see that these two ingredients will have completely unblocked the drain and eliminated any bad smells.
If you don't have citric acid, you can replace it with 150 ml of white vinegar, 60 grams of bicarbonate and a pot of boiling water. Coarse salt can also be used, but only in modern/new systems, because it could damage older pipes: pour 4 tablespoons followed by 4 tablespoons of bicarbonate and a pot of boiling water. Let the mixtures act for a few hours before running the water again.
And if you want to make sure that bad smells never come back to visit you, remember to repeat this operation once every 15 days or so. Have a great shower!
