Strong contrasts: make the island unit stand out in the kitchen with impactful color combinations

Being able to organize the space in the kitchen so as to create an island unit at its center (with all the necessary accessories and utensils - sometimes even sinks and appliances) makes the kitchen even more pleasant to use. When you think about installing an island unit in the kitchen, however, in addition to its size and the type of equipment you want to deploy, you can also take advantage of the decorative possibilities. In particular, when you don't want to choose a too radical design for all the units in the area, you can allow yourself a slightly more extravagant touch in the materials or colors of the island - to create a stunning contrast.

This way, the island unit will become the focus of the whole kitchen, and will be able to give it character without having to go overboard decorating and painting the rest of the room. Check out the ideas below:

A burst of color: a vibrant yellow in the center of the kitchen really steals the show and makes everything more cheerful and lively. In this way, the rest of the kitchen can remain more neutral, with white surfaces and wooden details. Modern and welcoming.

A bold green, with brass or gold fittings: this looks beautiful against a warm parquet and when the rest of the furniture is kept white - including the worktops. In fact, in a very bright room, a large island unit with bold colors will create a fantastic look without feeling oppressive.

When it comes to painted island units, we are generally referring to lacquered wood - which works both for furniture with a minimalist design and slightly older models (to which a splash of color can give an extra touch to make them look more modern).

And using bright colors is not necessary to create a contrast in the kitchen. This can be achieved by simply using different materials. For example, a brick cladding has been used for this island unit!

You can also be bold and use moldings on the island unit to create a contrast: in this manner, the unit will have a style (as well as a colour) markedly different from the rest of the room.

The rule of thumb for being able to place a solid, dark colored piece of furniture in any room is that the room itself must be bright and spacious.

Playing with colors to highlight the island unit will be a way to introduce colors into your home that cannot be used elsewhere.

And perhaps, over time, you can consider repainting the island unit only in order to change the atmosphere of the whole kitchen!

Once the minimum distance measures between the edges of the island and those of the other furniture that frame the kitchen have been determined, all that remains is to choose the colour, material or finish that can highlight your island unit. How would you like to furnish your kitchen with an island unit?
