There are a thousand expenses we incur every day, week or month to supply the house with everything it needs and to deal with a myriad daily exigencies. And often this involves considerable expenditure and effort. For this reason, where possible, it is useful to find a multipurpose solution, i.e. objects and accessories, or even detergents, which can be used in many different ways.

One of these items are dish sponges - those that have a soft body and an abrasive upper: in addition to washing dishes by hand, these sponges are also useful in other ways around the house. Let's look at some of these uses below:

  • To clean the working surfaces in the home: in the bathroom and around the house, these sponges work great, so maybe it's worth buying a large pack!
  • In the refrigerator: the sponges can help control the humidity level inside the refrigerator, to preserve various foods for longer. In order for them to do this, it is always advisable to place the various foods in the most suitable containers according to the type of food. Once done, all you need to do is slip one or two dish sponges into the fridge drawer (of course, they must be new, sterilized and perfectly dry).
  • There are also those who like to insert a sponge (perhaps even only half of one) inside containers of fruit and vegetables to keep them fresher for longer.
  • Also, if you add a few drops of vinegar on the sponge itself when placed in the fridge, it will help combat bad smells and prevent the formation of mold.
  • In the laundry: if you want to remove as much dog and cat hair as possible from your clothes during the wash, insert one or two clean sponges in the drum together with the clothes and they will catch a lot of hair!
  • Use as a DIY magic eraser: Boil two or three inches of water in a medium saucepan, pour half a cup of active oxygen bleach into the water and stir. Put on heat-resistant gloves, place a sponge into the liquid and squeeze it so that it soaks up the mixture. Squeeze again to drain any excess liquid and you will have created a magic eraser once it has cooled down.
  • To wash window frames: cleaning window frames is often very difficult, but if you use an old sponge - making cuts in it so that it fits into all the nooks and crannies - this chore becomes very easy!
