There are some products that never fall out of favor: one of these is the so-called yellow soap, aka soft potassium soap. In its original form, it is made of potassium salt fatty acids, vegetable oil (for example, coconut oil) glycerin and water. Many famous commercial formulations then add a perfume to make it more pleasing to one's sense of smell.

It is an ecologically friendly and biodegradable soap that is useful for taking care of plants, in the laundry and for other home cleaning tasks. Some of these uses are listed below:

  • To combat parasites on plants: to deal with parasites on plants - when the problem is not too serious - you can use yellow soap. Take about 20 grams from a bar and dissolve it in a liter of hot water. You will get a liquid which you can spray directly on the plants, wherever the parasites are lurking. The treatment should be repeated once every three days, preferably in the morning or evening, and never for more than 7 or 10 consecutive days.
  • In the laundry: you can prepare a homemade detergent by dissolving 250 grams of yellow soap in 250 ml of hot water (obviously, you can make more by increasing the doses proportionally). You can also add 20 drops of an essential oil you like (perhaps from citrus fruits or lavender flowers). When it has cooled, pour the mix into a suitable container and close. This mix can then be used just like any other laundry detergent.

Since it is a soap with a sticky consistency, it is always advisable to divide it into smaller pieces, or even small single-dose portions (depending on the use you want to make of it). The easiest way to cut it up is not with a knife, but using a strong cotton thread, or even a nylon cord. This procedure is also explained in a video posted by Estela_tips on TikTok.

Once you have obtained these single-dose cubes or balls, you can use them by rubbing them on the wet sponge which you then can use to wash the bathroom or other home surfaces. You can also stick one on the inside wall of the toilet, where it will help keep it clean and scented every time you flush the toilet.
