Marseille soap: the perfect ally for cleaning radiators
Marseille soap is one of those remedies used by our grandmothers and is still used for many cleaning tasks.
The sanitizing and whitening properties (and the pleasant scent) makes Marseille soap a valuable ally for any type of cleaning.
Few people know, however, that Marseille soap can also be a very effective remedy for cleaning the radiators in the home. Thanks to the fact that it is a product that is not too aggressive, it is ideal for treating the surface of radiators made of any material. Read on to find out more:
- One of the most widespread problems related to heating systems is that they catch a lot of dust. This becomes a polluter of the air and, at the same time, inhibits the radiator's performance. In this case, just use a cloth soaked in water (and wrung out) with a few drops (or flakes) of Marseille soap, gently passing it over the entire surface of the radiator. Then rinse the cloth out and pass it over the radiator again. At this point, you can wipe the radiator off with a dry cloth or wait for it to dry on its own. It is advisable to carry out this operation with the radiators off and, if necessary, wait for them to dry out thoroughly before turning them on again.
- As well as on the surfaces, dust can also accumulate inside the recesses (fins) of the radiator This is also not good for the air in the home and for the smell that can be produced. In this case, Marseille soap can again be useful. Dissolve some flakes or mix a tablespoon of liquid soap in a bowl or bottle of hot water. Under the radiator, place some rags and a basin to collect any excess, dirty water. Proceed by pouring the soap and water mix into each slot of the radiator fins, taking care to move the basin under each fin as you pour. After drying, your radiator will be sanitized and as good as new.
Another widespread problem concerning radiators are rust stains. To solve this, put some liquid soap or soap flakes directly on the stains to be treated. Then rub the stains with a cloth soaked in hot water to remove any residue and allow to dry. Rust (and other) stains will come off easily without damaging the radiator.
Finally, if you want to take advantage of the wonderful scent of Marseille soap to deodorize the house in a natural and delicate way, we advise you to put a few drops or flakes of the soap in the dehumidifier which is usually attaches to the radiator. The effect will be really pleasant and your home will smell great.
