Citric acid is a substance naturally present in citrus fruits and which is extracted and sold, in the form of powder or granules, for many specific purposes regarding home and personal care.

It is, therefore, a compound of natural origin which, thanks to its acidic properties, can be used for many cleaning chores. It is, in particular, an excellent descaler.

Below, we reveal a method to exploit the properties of citric acid in order to perfectly clean and sanitize a bathroom.

In oder to make an excellent multipurpose natural detergent using citric acid, just follow the instructions below. To make a generous quantity, you will need:

  • 300 grams of citric acid
  • Two liters of water
  • Two glasses of lemon juice
  • A spray container

The reason why it is useful to make this detergent lies in the fact that, by binding to water, citric acid activates its pH cleaning properties.

Once made, proceed as follows:

  • Add the citric acid to the water in a bowl, dissolving it and mixing it in thoroughly.
  • Filter the lemon juice, filtering out any seeds or pulp left after squeezing. Then, add the juice to the mixture.
  • Mix again and transfer everything into the spray container (which you can use to store the mixture in).

The cleaning solution thus obtained can be used to clean the porcelain and ceramics of your bathroom, to clean the glass shower doors (by eliminating limescale), to make the taps shine again and even to remove dirt from the blackened joints where limescale, mold and bacteria lurk. Simply spray the product where needed, scrub with a non-abrasive sponge or an old toothbrush (depending on the areas to be treated), rinse off and dry with a microfiber cloth. Where the dirt is particularly stubborn, you can leave the solution to act for a while (minutes or hours, depending on the stubborness of the dirt). The important thing is that you remember to avoid using this solution on marble or natural stone.

Have you already experienced the effectiveness of citric acid for cleaning your bathroom?
