How to recharge your smartphone safely and without damaging the power cable
Recharging a smartphone is a daily task: it often happens that the battery runs out at exactly the least opportune moment, forcing us to resort to find a power outlet. Even when we can safely recharge the phone from a wall socket, however, we can encounter difficulties. In fact, it can often happen - especially if we are away from home - to find that the wall sockets available are difficult to reach and force us to leave our smartphone on the floor. But this is a big risk as we (or someone else) could easily step on phone.
So how can we avoid this risk? A TikTok video shows us how:
TikTokker, @Kyvolhometips has numerous videos showing how to make our lives easier at home. In one of these videos, he explains how to recharge your smartphone at a wall socket without necessarily placing it on the floor. In the video, the user shows us how we can use the cable itself as a support for our smartphone: we attach the charger to the socket, and wind the cable around the phone, like a cradle. This cradle then supports our smartphone and keeps it off the floor.
However, we must be careful doing this, because, in the long run, it risks damaging the cable or the smartphone charging port. To avoid this inconvenience, we can reinforce the cable's end points using various methods:
- using special protectors available in the marketplace;
- makingDIY protectors using the springs of old, ballpoint pens;
- wrapping insulating tape around the connection ends (this solution is particulary recommended if the cable has already started to fray);
- wrapping a shoelace around the plug (to serve as the cradle);
- making a reinforcement for the entire cable by wrapping in cotton sewing thread;
- using heat shrink tubing.
Another important tip: avoid pulling on the cable itself to disconnect the phone: rather pull the plug fitting. Happy recharging!
