Discover how to decorate a baby's onesie with the number "1" using fabric dyes
Tie dyeing is a technique used to dye a garment which is knotted up and then dyed. Often, it is a T-shirt that is subjected to the method of dyeing. The result is an abstract pattern that is always different, made up of nuances and contrasts between the colors and undyed areas.
Fashionable for decades, every now and then tie dyeing comes back into fashion. And now there are dyes that one can use even in a microwave oven. But what if you only wanted to use this method to draw a number? For example, you might want to decorate yours baby's onesie during the first month of its life? Read on to find out how this is done:
Demonstrating this simple method is TikTokker Melissa Metrano, who wanted to share a video of the process in which she dyed a onesie for her baby.
What you will need:
- A baby's onesie (suitable for one month old babies), preferably white in color;
- A marker that writes well on the fabric;
- Two or more fabric dyes, i.e. colors you want to use together on the same garment. Maybe choose a dark color for the number and a lighter one for the background;
- Elastic bands.
How to proceed:
- Spread the onesie well on a flat surface, avoiding making any wrinkles.
- Carefully draw the number "1" on the front of the onesie. The important thing is that the outline of the number is clear.
- Pinch the fabric so that you only pick up the points where you see the line of the number "1" between your fingers, lifting it up and squeezing the fabric together
- Tie the ball of fabric up using the rubber band, as tightly together as possible. The goal is to see only the portions of the fabric that were written on with the marker.
- At this point, you can use other rubber bands to divide up the rest of the onesie (perhaps at the arms and crotch);
- Pour the dark dye onto where the number "1" was;
- Pour the other colors, as desired, onto the rest of the onesie;
- Then proceed by following the instructions of the type of dye chosen (for fixing the dye and dyeing times).
When you're done, just remove the elastic bands and you'll see the number "1" clearly in the center of the onesie (and as you can see in the videos from the TikTokker here and here).
