Effortlessly clean your oven: try a simple, overnight method
Every day there are a dozen chores to do around the home. And we don't always have the time or energy to dedicate ourselves to each of them properly. But what about chores that cannot be postponed? In these cases, it is useful to find a solution that allows us to get the desired results while saving time and effort. For example, if you can no longer postpone cleaning the dirt-encrusted oven, you can try a method that works overnight, and requires very little effort.
So, what is this method? Read on to find out more:
What you will need:
- 120ml of ammonia. It must preferably be pure ammonia, without any perfume;
- a bowl suitable for use in the oven, i.e. one resistant to high temperatures (like Pyrex, for example);
- a pot of water;
- dish soap;
- a sponge for wiping down.
How to proceed:
- Preheat the oven to 80°C and let it reach this temperature;
- When ready, turn off the oven and place the pot of water at the bottom of the oven;
- Pour the ammonia into the oven-safe bowl and place it on the middle or top shelf of the oven and close the door;
- Leave overnight;
- The next morning, remove the pot of water;
- Take the bowl with the ammonia, add water (you don't need much) and also a few drops of dish soap;
- Use this mixture, and with the help of the sponge, wipe down all the internal surfaces, glass and grills of the oven;
- With the help of another clean sponge or cloth, wipe all the surfaces clean.
The ammonia will have dissolved and softened the dirt overnight, so sponging the oven down the next day will be really quick and easy. The reason why it is recommended to use pure ammonia is that, when it is not covered by perfume, the strong smell can be easily detected. So, if after rinsing the smell has not gone, it's best to continue cleaning until it does.
Furthermore, since ammonia is a chemical substance that is potentially dangerous to one's health, it is always advisable to ventilate the room well the next morning, protect your respiratory tract (with a mask), and immediately wash the sponges and cloths used in the washing machine. Finally, ammonia should always be kept away from the reach of children and pets.
