5 cleaning tips to consider trying to avoid unnecessary hassle
Keeping your home ship-shape is a constant effort. It's so much more than just sweeping or tidying up regularly: you also need to know how to deal with any additional problems that can arise before they get out of hand. For example, if there are humid areas in the home, care must be taken to keep them as dry as possible to prevent mold from forming.
But there are some tips and tricks which are worth considering which can make our daily maintenance and cleaning lives so much easier. Discover some of these by reading further:
Using rock salt, it is possible to create a rudimentary, but efficient, dehumidifier for certain areas like cellars and basements, (which are often humid and where there is insufficient sunlight or ventilation). Take two containers and put one inside the other, but first putting a hole in the bottom of the internal container. Fill this perforated container with rock salt, and over time it will absorb moisture which will flow into the outer container. Just remember to empty the collection container out at regular intervals, and maybe top up the rock salt from time to time.
If you notice damp spots while they are still small, you can intervene by washing them off with bleach or with hydrogen peroxide (which is less aggressive and must remain in contact with the surface for a longer period of time than bleach). These are remedies that kill off mold spores, and when everything has dried out thoroughly (remember to work in a well-ventilated room), you can proceed to scrape off the damaged spots and repaint.
To make sink drains shine quickly, you can rub them with an old toothbrush and a little toothpaste (pastes without gel are best), or even with white vinegar.
One method to make the bad odors from the toilet disappear quickly after use is to light a match near the toilet. This burns up the methane in the air. Be careful, of course, when using matches.
