Don't be put off by the size of the kitchen: even a small one has room for everything
Who wouldn't want a large and spacious kitchen - one in which to move freely, is bright and comfortable? This are a reality that is often difficult to achieve. Often, it is easier for us to exploit all the space that is available - which may not be much - to deploy everything we need, including appliances and furniture.
With the inspiration, this can be done. From the arrangement of the furniture to the solutions for using every surface to the fullest, we can do a lot. Check out the ideas below:
An open-plan kitchen is one of the first solution to consider: it has a number of pros and cons that should not be overlooked, but it certainly saves space in smaller kitchens - which would otherwise be cramped, stuffy rooms.
Sometimes, an open plan kitchen is the only option, as in the case in which the kitchenette is close to a threshold, staircase or other architectural element that prevents the putting up of partitions.
Mounting the furniture on two of the three or four walls available allows you to move around much more freely in the kitchen. One side will store the appliances, and the other can be a worktop that also acts as a table.
As for the combination of colors, small spaces are more attractive with light and bright shades. But it doesn't hurts to choose some elements that create contrasts, such as a patterned floor or a wall accent.
For example, if the back wall between two long sides of a narrow kitchen does not have a window, it can be used as an accent wall, painted in a dark color and fitted with a few rails or small, shallow shelves.
If the space available is vertical, the idea of mounting furniture high up should be considered, perhaps also using a sliding ladder to reach the units.
Modern kitchens are a theater of open furniture and shelves mounted on the wall: beautiful, they lighten and expand the space but they are also challenging, since they need to be dusted very often. However, you can always create well-organized shelves inside wardrobes that can then be closed (or which use glass doors).
If there is some space left over once the units have been deployed, equip it with small shelves.
Also consider using retractable drawers which can be store a myriad of items. And there are models of retractable drawers especially for corners!
With tension rods, you need not waste a single inch: and the rods are a great ally in the kitchen.
The backsplash behind the worktops can also accommodate baskets hanging from the rods - which act as extra drawers.
And instead of a skirting board, the bottom of the furniture can be equipped with drawers which can store, for example, your trays.
It takes a bit of effort, but there are many solutions to consider!
