Marseille soap is the staple of many alternative home cleaning remedies, and is very useful in the laundry. And the more natural its formulation, the better it will be for the results obtained. In the traditional form, it is a solid soap, which can be bought in bars (which can make it difficult to measure out dosage amounts).

Many people are discouraged from using Marseille soap to do laundry, because the idea of cutting it into flakes or grating it takes time that not everyone has. But there is a much simpler way to take advantage of the properties of this natural soap: use it on a clean towel. How do we do this? It's very simple:

  • Choose an old towel, but one which is very clean and preferably white or a light color.
  • Now moisten the towel. It doesn't have to be dripping wet, damp is fine.
  • Wet the Marseille soap bar with hot water, so that it will dissolve more easily.
  • Rub the soap on both sides of the towel.
  • Place the towel, along with the rest of the laundry, in the washing machine.

If the laundry isn't too dirty, you might use this tip without using any more detergent. Otherwise, add some detergent to the dispenser, but in smaller quantities than usual. By rubbing the soap on the towel, it will dissolve into the washing water very easily.

Into the drum itself, you could also add a couple of tablespoons of baking soda, or add a few drops (about 20) of an essential oil you like - especially if you don't like the smell of Marseille soap.
