The "smart" jar: a revolutionary alternative to classic pickle jars
Pickles are very popular, especially for those with savory palates. There are countless brands on the market and these products that can also be prepared at home easily. It is part of many culinary traditions to prepare and preserve pickles at home. And in all cases, the classic glass jars with metal lids are used in the preparation process.
Using glass jars seem to be the best, most convenient and most hygienic solution for storing and consuming any type of food, including pickles. At least, it was until now. For some time now, there have been some very special jars in shops that could revolutionize the way we pickle gherkins, olives, peppers, carrots and everything else that can be preserved in vinegar or in oil.
On TikTok, @homewithchloex, shows this bizarre but ingenious invention in a video.
It is a container with an hourglass shape and where the top is more spacious than the bottom. This is due to the fact that the jar is designed to separate the liquid from the solids during use. The system is similar to that of an hourglass which, if turned upside down, allows the contents to fall from the top to the bottom. In this case, the different width of the two spaces means that the large space can contain liquids and solids when the food is being preserved. By turning it upside down, however, the liquid drains and flows into the smaller space, leaving the food exposed and ready for consumption.
This is a very clever solution to save vinegar and oil which, often, must be added after normal consumption. And it saves on using extra dishes during service. Especially for informal occasions, putting this weird-looking jar on the table will raise everyone's eyebrows.
