Sunday family lunches and well dinners with friends, are pleasant moments of leisure in life. But when we host these events, we always worry about our tablecloths: tablecloths and napkins always risk being irreparably ruined by food oil stains.

But there is no need to despair - whether they are fresh or old, there are many DIY remedies that will help you make your fabric tableware look like new again! But always do a test first. Let's find out how to do this:

If the stain is a new one, it is easier to deal with. To remove it, three ingredients can be used: bicarbonate, talcum powder or corn starch. Whatever ingredient you choose, the procedure is the same: sprinkle the fresh stain with the powder and let it act for a few minutes; then remove the powder with a brush. Proceed with rinsing the item with water and vinegar and then do a normal wash.

When the stain is old and/or dry, it can still be removed successfully. Here are three remedies:

  • Baking soda and vinegar: baking soda acts on both new and old stains, but in this case you will need the support of vinegar. Sprinkle the grease stain with a mixture of these two ingredients and let it act for about 10 minutes before proceeding with a regular wash. If the stain does not disappear completely, you can repeat this operation several times.
  • Denatured alcohol: another very useful ingredient in removing dry grease stains, denatured alcohol should be applied to the area to be treated for about 10 minutes; then soak the fabric in water and Marseille soap flakes for an hour. Thereafter, do a regular wash and you will see that your stain will have disappeared.
  • Marseille soap or yellow soap: these are the most used products to pre-treat and remove stains from fabrics and it is always advisable to have them to hand. Just rub the stain with a damp soap stick (you can help this process by using a toothbrush), then wash the item in the washing machine. If you don't have Marseille soap or yellow soap at home, you can use a drop of dishwashing soap, specially formulated to dissolve fat.

Your tablecloths will be restored, and so will your dinners with friends!
