Cleaning balcony window frames is, for many, one of the most tedious and tiring housework chores to do. The surfaces are not regular and the gaps in which the dirt accumulates makes it an operation that requires, most of the time, a lot of patience. And the dirt that accumulates can be stubborn, especially on the outer parts that are most exposed to wind and rain.

However, there are remedies and tips that can make this cleaning easier and more practical and yield better results. And we are not talking about commercial, chemical products - which are expensive and not eco-friendly. We are talking about natural remedies which, when used properly, are the ideal solution for this type of chore.

The best choice, whatever the type of fixtures you are dealing with, is to start removing the bulk of the dirt by dusting the areas with a broom that has medium-hard bristles. If you notice that there are nooks and crannies where you cannot get into, you can help yourself with a tool like a knitting needle, the tip of which can be covered with a soft cloth. Using this method, you will be able to remove the smallest particles of dirt from any gaps. After this operation, you will need to proceed with washing, taking into account the material from which the fixtures are made. The most common are aluminum, PVC and wood.

For aluminum and PVC windows:

  • Aluminum and PVC are currently the common materials used in the construction of window frames. They are quite resistant and can be washed with products such as vinegar, lemon and baking soda. In a bucket of very hot water, add two tablespoons of vinegar or lemon and one of baking soda.
  • Wipe the fixtures down with a soft cloth, rubbing where needed.
  • Rinse everything off with the help of a microfiber cloth.

For wooden frames:

As for wood, it is a more delicate material that requires the use of less aggressive products than vinegar and lemon. You can try, in this case, a mixture of baking soda and Marseille soap.

  • Mix two or three tablespoons of baking soda with two or three tablespoons of melted Marseille soap.
  • The mixture obtained in this way, which has a creamy consistency, can be used with a brush or a sponge to gently remove the dirt from the wooden window frames.
  • Rinse off using a microfiber cloth soaked in water. And that's it!
