Pillows in the washing machine: make them fresh and clean again using these tips
Pillows should be washed frequently, but not everyone is in the habit of doing so. It is often thought that changing the pillowcases is enough to keep our pillows clean. This is not so.
Changing the pillow covers is not enough and it is necessary for pillows themselves to be washed to prevent the proliferation of dust, mites and bacteria.
But don't worry - we have you covered. It is a very simple job to do if you have the right products, a washing machine and a dryer. Read on to find out more:
To show us how to do this, is @cleanthatup, a TikTokker who specializes in providing cleaning tips. Below, are the steps used by @cleanthatup to get "fresh and clean" pillows, he says himself.
For the pre-wash treatment:
- Mix white vinegar, lemon juice and dish soap.
- Transfer this mixture to a spray container and spray on the pillow to be pre-treated - especially in the areas where it needs to be bleached.
- Set to one side and leave it to act for about half an hour.
After thirty minutes, you can move on to the actual washing:
- Add half a scoop of borax and laundry detergent and start the wash cycle.
- If the pillows are very dirty, you can set the soak function in addition to the normal wash - however choose a program for delicates.
- After washing, transfer the pillows to the dryer taking care, again, to set a drying cycle for delicate items. For the pillow to dry perfectly, it may take several cycles. In the end, however, you will have a perfectly sanitized and fresh pillow from the laundry.
