Warm, soft and colorful, rugs and carpets are among the most loved and used accessories which give a final, finishing touch to our homes. With long or short pile, large or small size and properly positioned, carpets can be a true asset in our homes.

But how can we clean them properly? Carpets are major retainers of dirt and dust, which could  make us regret even having them in our homes. So, to find out how to clean them properly, let's get some advice from a professional housekeeper.

Professional housekeeper, @tidycademypro, on TikTok explains that the first thing to do is to remove any dust on the carpet using a vacuum cleaner or carpet cleaner. This should be done every day or every other day, with a vacuum cleaner that has the power to suck dust up through the fibers.

However, if you want to make sure that even the deepest layers of dust are removed, you can wash the carpet once a week (for example, bathroom and kitchen rugs are usually of a size that can be easily be put in the washing machine). If the carpet is very large and difficult to move, you can have it cleaned by a professional once every year or two.

The housekeeper then reminds anyone who cleans their house properly, you need to do something more, other than washing the carpet. For a house to be considered properly clean, it is important that the carpet is rolled up and placed to one side, in order to clean the floor underneath where it usually lays.

In the short video, the young woman invites us not to be lazy: it is important that the floor under the carpet is also vacuumed and washed, like the rest of the floors in the house! How do you tackle this cleaning chore?
