10 items that we keep in the bathroom but that we should store elsewhere
Whether it is large or small, whether we are hoarders and messy or minimalist and obsessed with order, at home we always adopt specific criteria for placing our objects in specific locations. Our bathrooms, for example, are rooms where we place all those products that we only use there: cosmetics, towels, personal care products, dirty linen, hair dryers, etc.
But are we really sure that the bathroom is the ideal location for all the objects we keep there? It will surprise you, but most of the things we store in the bathroom should be somewhere elsewhere! Let's find out together the 10 items that are almost certainly in your bathroom and that you should move to another location.
1. Towels and bathrobes
We usually keep our clean towels and bathrobes in the bathroom, close to hand; nowadays, well-folded towels often stand out on open shelves in our bathrooms, almost serving as a decorative element. But you may not know that it is the best way to dirty them before they are even used. The humid environment of the bathroom, in fact, inevitably moistens the towels and bathrobes. For this reason, once dried and folded, they should be stored in a wardrobe or drawer in a different room of the house - for example in a bedroom or in a corridor cupboard.
2. Feminine hygiene products
Creativo
The cotton of which absorbents and tampons are usually composed (and also cotton balls, make-up discs and cotton buds), is very sensitive to heat and humidity and could lose their hygienic integrity if stored in the bathroom - especially after opening. In fact, all these products need to be in a cool and dry place, preferably in single and sealed packages, as humidity can render them useless.
3. Manicure utensils
Creativo
Manicure utensils are usually made of steel and no matter how good the quality of the raw material is, humidity in the bathroom can cause them to rust. It is best to keep scissors, files and nail clippers elsewhere, in the dry.
4. Nail polish
Creativo
Even nail polish, like cotton products, needs to be kept in a place that is cool and dry. Hot, humid bathrooms can lead to rapid deterioration of polishes which will thicken and fade. Instead, you can store it in drawers, cupboards or shelves in another room.
5. Electrical appliances
Creativo
Certainly, the most logical place to store hairdryers, straighteners, irons and electric razors is the bathroom, since that's where they will be used. However, it must be remembered that in the bathroom, the heat and humidity leads to a reduction in the life of these electrical appliances, which will be damaged more quickly in the bathroom than when stored in other rooms of the house.
6. Cat litter
Creativo
The material from which cat litter is made absorbs moisture and this property prevents bad odors. If the litter box is stored in the bathroom, some of this property will be lost due to the humidity of the environment. And let's not forget that when the cat cannot get into the bathroom to use the litter box, you can end up finding unpleasant "little gifts" where they shouldn't be!
7. Plants
Creativo
Houseplants are undoubtedly a wonderful furnishing idea, but the bathroom is not an ideal environment for them: if there are no windows (allowing in sunlight, fresh air, etc), the plants could die. Plants in high-humidity environments soon begin to suffer and could be attacked by molds and fungi.
8. Exposed razors
Creativo
If the environment is humid, razor blades oxidize and rust quickly. This is why it is essential to always dry them off well after use and store them outside of the bathroom. New blades are likely to deteriorate before use if stored in the bathroom (unless their packaging is sealed).
9. Depilatory wax strips
Creativo
Depilatory wax melts easily and begins to deteriorate when exposed to high temperatures. It should therefore be used immediately after opening, otherwise it loses its effectiveness. Furthermore, the wax should not come into contact with water, otherwise it will be damaged. Store the wax in a cool, dry environment.
10. Basket for dirty laundry
Creativo
We all firmly believe that the best place for the laundry basket is in the bathroom: it's proximity means we can put our dirty clothes into it easily when we take a shower or bath. The humidity of the bathroom, however, allows for a proliferation of mold on the fabrics and the appearance of bad odors - which will be difficult to eliminate, even with a wash at 60 degrees C.
