Taking a shower is a moment of relaxation that we indulge ourselves with not only for hygiene reasons, but also to relax our minds: there is nothing better than a hot jet of running water to wash away stress. However, sometimes, this pleasure risks turning sour when we step into the shower cubicle. Humidity, stagnant water, bad smells from the drain could force us to put a clothes peg on our noses while we shower.

And if regular cleaning is enough to combat stagnation and humidity, more drastic methods are sometimes required for the drain. Let's find out how to deal with this using natural methods.

Vinegar comes to our aid often for housekeeping chores and it does so in this case too: add half a liter of white vinegar to a bucket of boiling water and pour it down the drain. Let the mix act for a few hours before using the shower and you will see that the bad smell will be gone!

Baking soda is also one of the most versatile allies in cleaning tasks. You can use it in drains by dissolving a glass in boiling water and pouring it down the drain or by putting two tablespoons in the drain and, after a few hours, pouring boiling water into the drain. Again, let it act for a few hours before using as normal.

3. Rock salt

Very useful ingredient not only for cooking, but also to help us clean, just pour two tablespoons of rock salt down the drain and let it act overnight. The next day, pour a bucket of boiling water down the drain and the bad smell will disappear.

4. Citric acid or lemon

If you've never used citric acid before, now is the time to add it to your range of cleaners. Citric acid is excellent for various uses at home and amongst these are drain-cleaning. To use it, dissolve 150 g in 1 liter of hot water and pour it down the drain. Let it act for a few hours.

5. Perfume

If in addition to removing bad smells you also want to perfume your shower area, you can use aromatic herbs: place a sprig of laurel, lavender, rosemary, mint or eucalyptus near the shower head, making sure that it does not get wet. The steam will release the plant's pleasant aroma, perfuming the entire environment.
