Furnishing the bathroom with DIY shelves: 9 ideas to inspire you
Enter almost any bathroom, open a unit and you will probably find that it is full of objects and accessories tucked into every possible space, often precariously. This will not be the case in all homes, but it can happen often. In fact, it takes very little little time before our cupboards turn into jam-packed elements of chaos.
As long as there is still space in the cupboards, wall units and drawers, no problem. But when these storage items fill up, using the bathroom, for example, can become uncomfortable. So, what can we do? If by chance there are free areas on the wall, we can put up shelves using DIY projects which can meet our needs.
You don't need to be a carpentry wizard to transform reclaimed wooden planks (perhaps taken from a pallet) into a vertical support with multiple shelves, to be fixed to the wall (and to store all your towels, for example).
Among the shelves that are the most popular, are those whose support brackets are not visible. In the bathroom, to avoid unnecessary clutter, they can also be narrow, and have a more "chunky" look. They will still be very attractive to look at.
A metal tube and some small corner shelves: in the shower you will now have room for shower gel, shampoo and everything else you need.
There are also many ideas that take advantage of a point in the bathroom that is generally neglected: the space above, and even to the sides, of the toilet. With shelves, tops supported by long legs that rest on both sides of the toilet, you can find a place to store many objects that often just lay around untidily.
Focusing on more refined designs, there are many models of shelves to try out, and which can adapt to any type of decor. Simple and basic shapes, are truly versatile.
Taking a cue from another classic of DIY furniture - a ladder converted into a towel rack - you could make a shelf that looks beautiful mounted on the wall.
To give a refined touch to the shelves, you could add a small metal balustrade, which can match the taps.
And why not combine the idea of floating shelves with drawers? Thicker shelves, in fact, can hide a storage compartment inside them.
