Perfect curls without heat: you can use simple socks
The famous wavy hair style - whether it's curls or softer and less defined waves - is one of the most sought-after looks in recent years. But while wavy hair is all the rage, it's not always easy to achieve this look. You can contact your trusted hairdresser or do them yourself. In both cases, the most popular methods involve the use of a hair dryer and brush, curlers or hair irons - all which use heat. Heat stresses the hair and damages it in the long run.
This is why a trend to find alternatives to creating waves and curls has taken off. The most famous alternative on the market is the heatless curler - a long, soft and malleable tube, positioned like a headband which twists the hair.
But there are even more original and "homemade" methods around which anyone can use.
One of these alternatives involves the use of simple socks. As often happens in these cases, a famous TikTokker has made this method popular. Hair experet, @elissakincade posted a video where she shows how to make curly hair with the help of a common sock. We briefly summarize the main steps below to show you how simple this method is:
- Divide still damp hair into four or more sections. Shape into large locks, as if you were going to make plaits.
- On top of each strand, place a sock long enough to cover the length of the hair from the roots to the ends, securing it with a clip.
- Then, divide each lock into two parts. Intertwine the two smaller locks of hair with the sock, just like a classic braid and secure the base with an elastic band.
- Repeat for each section and leave this "scaffolding" in place for a few hours. The ideal would be to do this in the evening, before going to bed, and leave your hair in the socks for the night.
Once freed, your hair will be wavy and look incredibly natural. If you want to learn more and put the technique into practice, watch the step-by-step instructional video.
