Reusable wet wipes: make your own using this DIY method

Whenever you need to clean kitchen countertops, the dining table, or some other surface around the house, many of us use absorbent kitchen towel, or the dish cloths that we usually keep at the sink - which need to be moistened and rinsed out each time.

It cannot be said that it is a big effort, of course, but it would certainly take less time if we had ready-to-use wet wipes nearby. We are not referring, however, to the disposable ones that are certainly useful but are also not very environmentally friendly. For these small household chores you can also use a DIY version, which can be reused countless times over.

With a view to protecting the environment, a solution like this is very useful: it reduces waste, and you don't have to spend any money. The wipes can be washed together with tea towels, or other household linen.

TikTokker @vekalife24 also proposes the following method to make these wipes:

  • 20 drops of an essential oil you prefer (we often recommend teatree, which has antifungal and antibacterial properties)
  • 1 tablespoon of liquid dish detergent
  • half a liter of very hot water
  • 150 ml of isopropyl alcohol (90%)
  • fabric scraps (old shirts, old sheets, etc)
  • an airtight glass jar

Get a bowl or pot to mix all the ingredients in: water, alcohol, detergent and essential oil. Mix them well with the help of a spoon or ladle.

To prepare your wipes, put them in the jar, making sure that there is some free space. Then pour the liquid mix into the jar, close the lid and shake vigourously so that each piece of cloth becomes soaked in the mixture. See here how to do this.

These wipes will be useful in the kitchen, but also in the bathroom. The TikTokker uses them to clean her baby's high chair, the oven, and basically any surface that gets dirty on a daily basis.

Since it is a product that contains alcohol, the wipes are not advised for use wooden surfaces. But they work great on marble, granite, glass, steel and ceramic surfaces.
