A very simple method to clean windows and make them sparkle again
At times, you can enter a room and find it clean, tidy and perhaps even perfumed - but if the window panes are dirty, this spoils the overall effect. A room with clean windows immediately gives one a greater feeling of cleanliness.
Whether it's residue left by rain, atmospheric dirt or streaks left over by the last cleaning, we often find ourselves wanting to clean our windows. And there are many methods to do this, including using DIY products. But what if you don't have the necessary items? Do not worry - it is very likely that you already have everything you need at home already.
What you will need:
- a bucket or basin;
- your favorite tool to reach every inch of the glass properly (be it a simple cloth or a broom or mop, with the suitable cloth placed on it);
- 2 tablespoons of dish soap;
- plenty of hot water (at least two liters);
- [optional] rinse aid for the dishwasher (one tablespoon);
- one or two soft cloths.
How to proceed:
- Mix all the ingredients well in the bowl.
- Wet a cloth with just a little water, without wringing it out too much. Pass it over the glass, especially the outer edges. Alternatively, for external windows, you can use a little water from the garden hose.
- With one of the other cloths (or a broom wrapped with a cloth), wipe the the mixture in the basin over the glass. Make sure to get into all of the corners properly.
- Rinse off (with the hose or another cloth, as appropriate).
- Let the glass air dry.
If you want, you can also use a squeegee to remove excess water and thereby reduce the risk of streaking due to limescale in the water.
Always avoid washing windows that are in direct sunlight.
Rinse aid is a helpful addition, but you can actually just dissolve a little dish soap in plenty of hot water, and use the mixture in a spray bottle for the same purpose!
