Of all the garments that make up one's wardrobe, T-shirts are perhaps the most numerous. Super versatile garments, used for a thousand different outfits - from the most casual to the most sophisticated of looks. Between design, material, colors and prints, they can really be used on any occasion and throughout the year.

They also have another advantage: they are easy to fold, although often we still end up looking for space. And what about when we travel? There is always the problem of making room for an extra item in one's suitcase.

The solution? Fold them into small rolls - compact and neat cylindrical packages - as shown on a video on TikTok.

To show the method which many now use, comes a video from @thefoldinglady.

In the clip - which you can see here - the steps to follow are few and fast.

  • Start by placing the T-shirt neatly on a flat surface (a table or a bed, will do).
  • Take the bottom end and turn it outwards, folding it upwards for about ten centimeter. Flatten the fold.
  • Now take one side of the T-shirt, pinching it on the sleeve and down on the end of the folded edge, and bring it to the center.
  • Overlap the other side, in a mirroring motion.
  • You will now have obtained a narrow and long rectangle: now start rolling it up from top to bottom.
  • When you reach the end, you will have an edge that runs along the cylinder: take it and turn it outwards, so as to make it become an envelope that encloses the whole package.

To fully understand this method, take a look at the video: it's really very simple to replicate!

Once you understand the method, you can also adapt it to other similar garments, such as tank tops or longer-sleeved shirts: you will always need to create precise rectangles to be rolled up and closed firmly. Think about how many more things will be able to fit in your suitcase or drawer - or maybe even in boxes at the change of season (or for a move)!
