Do you know how to properly clean your washing machine? This video tutorial explains it step by step
The washing machine is among the most appreciated and used appliances in our homes. Used almost daily to clean our clothes - sometimes even several times a day - we rarely remember that it too deserves a little cleaning from time to time. Dust, residue of fabrics or dirt, stagnant water or detergent can cause the deposition of limescale and the proliferation of fungus and germs - especially on the rubber gaskets and in the detergent dispensing compartment. Not to mention the filter, which is at a high risk of clogging due to the presence of lint, hair, dust, fabric particles and other types of dirt.
The washing machine should therefore be cleaned regularly: at least once a month with an empty wash cycle at high temperature and, less frequently, with a deeper cleaning. But how do you clean a washing machine perfectly? A popular tutorial from @homewithchloex on TikTok explains this to us.
1. Detergent dispensing compartment
"This is how I clean my washing machine," says the cleaning expert in her video tutorial. First of all, you have to wash the detergent dispensing compartment by removing the drawer and dipping it in soapy water and scrubbing it with a dish brush, with which you will also need to clean the drawer housing.
2. Exterior of the washing machine
The second step is to disinfect the outside of the washing machine using a sanitizing spray and a soft sponge. Then dry off well with a clean, dry cloth.
3. Interior and seals (gaskets)
We then move to inside the door and the gaskets, which must be carefully scrubbed with a damp sponge and sanitizing spray to remove all residues of water, soap and dirt and any build-up of limescale or fungus formation.
4. The filter
Now it's time for the filter: empty out the water using a low basin or an absorbent towel or a baby diaper, remove the filter and wash it in soapy water (like already done for the detergent dispensing drawer).
5. Empty wash
After cleaning the accessories, put a little disinfectant detergent in the dispensing drawer and baking soda in the drum and starting an empty wash cycle at a very high temperature. This advice got a lot of appreciative comments from users (who especially liked the idea of using a baby diaper as an absorbent to empty the water from the filter).
