Sockets and electrical cables in view: 10 methods to disguise them creatively

With the sheer amount of electronic devices that are used every day in any home, there is no room where you risk tripping over power cables. And having a lot of power outlets in the walls also spoils the overall aesthetic of our home environments too.

In the case of these cables, then, passing them through a conduit is a painstaking work that takes up time and money. Additionally, this has the drawback of making maintenance and replacement difficult. As a result, just leaving cables around (and plugs) in plain sight is certainly cheaper and more convenient. But how can we stop this from looking messy and unattractive? Just turn them into decorations, as show in the examples below:

A colorful cable can be used to form words that are scripted on the wall.

And this idea can be developed further, by making the words drawn by the cables cross picture frames/canvases specially placed on the wall.

One of the most popular ideas is to form a stylized skyline of some city with a dark cable. And here, you will not need paintings or prints on the walls to furnish the room in a modern style.

Another cheap and cheerful idea is to use cables from which bulbs are hanging (especially the large ones) for decoration. Instead of leaving the wire in sight, thread it through wooden beads, like a necklace. It will be so much better to look at as it hangs from the ceiling!

A similar solution can also be adopted for cables that power standing, floor lamps. It looks very pretty, especially when using different sized wooden beads!

For the cables that go up a wall - perhaps from the TV - many add stickers or fake leaves to the cable so that it looks like a green vine.

As for devices, one can search for brackets that have unique shapes - like these antlers, for example.

Or indulge yourself by painting or drawing cute designs, like perhaps a mustache under a socket's holes. They will look like smileys!

And for a socket that isn't used too often, you consider covering it with a miniature door, as if it were an entrance to the secret abode of some creature living in your house.

Again, for sockets that are mounted in/on furniture or around the kitchen, it is always a nice touch to finish them off with a closing panel.

What's your favorite solution?
