Tuna, other types of fish or canned meat: we often buy them in tins which we throw out in the garbage. But the cans can be used for fun recycling projects.

With a little imagination, we can test our artistic skills by transforming these cans into many colorful and attractive objects to decorate our homes. In fact, they can become alarm clocks, pots for succulent plants, photo frames and more: just find the right inspiration, wash them carefully and dull down the sharp edges and away you go! You can throw yourself into many hours of creative craftwork.

In supermarkets, nurseries and specialist shops, it is easy to find tiny succulent plants: they are perfect for creating adorable compositions inside small containers such as tuna cans - perhaps even decorated with decoupage and then enriched with various designs to create unique knick-knacks.

A little paint and some trimming - fabric or jute strips, for example ... that's all you need to decorate cans to use as containers for succulent plants. These are very cute when mounted vertically on wooden panels or boards to be fixed to a wall.

Pieces of ceramic or glass and putty, paste or glue: in a short time, you can decorate tuna cans with customized mosaics, and then fill them up as you wish.

With the mosaic technique you can also use various types of pebbles and gravel. And perhaps by recycling both small tuna cans and larger one for other canned foods, you can make an amazing set of flower pots.

Another idea for DIY decorations: glue, tweezers and lots of colored beads. They will create an exotic look!

Amongst the cutest projects to consider are making clocks. A little paint, some corks for feet and then the mechanism with the clock hands (usually battery operated). These are also ideal as gifts.

And they are cute even when mounted on a wall.

They could also be simple ornaments to cover with decorations in the shabby chic style.

A photo inside each can: this is very easy-to-create, original photo frame, to hang on the wall or glued together to display on shelves.

If they are deep enough to hold candles, it is great to use them as candle holders.

And if you are careful not to damage tin can lids when you open them, you can use them for DIY decorations - of course after you have dulled or covered the sharp edges.

How would you like to recycle old tuna cans?
