Around the home, we have a lot of objects that we use every day and always in the same way: we do not ask ourselves if they could be used otherwise because, from an early age, we have learned that they serve a precise function, and nothing else. Small pockets on jeans, the hole in the ladle that we use for long pasta, and even the slits on the base plate of a stapler: all these features have a reason to exist that perhaps we are not aware of. Read on to find out more:

The metal base plate of a table stapler has several small indentations: you can change their position in order to staple the sheets in different ways! In fact, on one setting, the metal points of the staple fold outwards, and are used for small packets of sheets that will then be easier to detach. In short, this setting is used when you know you will need to detach the documents soon and so you will not have to use a staple remover when you need the sheets separated!

Have you ever noticed that many backpacks have a diamond-shaped tab usually sewn at the top, and these have two small parallel slots cut into them: they are used to attach objects to the backpack. You can thread cord or small carabiners through those slots, to and hang shoes, water bottles and whatever else you want from the backpack.

We still find these on most jeans, and now they can be used for lighters, coins, hair clips and a host of other items.

We all know the Converse All Star - a truly iconic and timeless pair of shoes. Have you ever noticed that they have two holes on the inner side of the upper in the center, just above the sole? It is thought that it is to ensure better ventilation for the feet, but in reality they serve to secure the laces, allowing them pass from the inside of the shoe itself, so the sneakers will fit more tightly around the foot.

Not that it was created for this purpose, but the handle of a pot has a hole that allows you to place the ladles inside so that they drip into the pot itself.

What about the hole in the center of the ladle that is used for long pasta (spaghetti)? It can be used to measure out the amount of spaghetti suitable for one person, on average.
